Overview

The project was originally focused on raising awareness about the transparancy of personal data in the surveilliance society. The CPR number is an individual identification code, given to every resident of Denmark. The number is expected to be private, and can, especially when combined with the CPR card, be used to access a number of services such as personal bank accounts and health records. It is as such an expression of identity even more personal than one's name.

The installation was intended to highlight the dangers of the CPR number, as well as to reflect on the relationship between number and self. The audience, however, approached the installation in a more playful manner than we expected.

Context

The installation was one of the results of "Surveillance DK/UK" workshop, taught by Barnabas Wetton at Designskolen Kolding, 2004. The project was a collaboration of Innovation Lab in Aarhus, Sungbae Jo, Ditte K Møller and myself.
